Alison T. McNeil

Founder & Chief Creative Officer

Alison T. McNeil is a cultural strategist, evaluator, and trusted advisor who helps organizations understand how culture creates change—and what to do about it. As the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of McNeil Creative Enterprises (MCE) and host of Cultural Catalysts, she works at the intersection of strategy, learning, evaluation, and creative practice, helping organizations make informed decisions, strengthen impact, and build more sustainable futures.

Her perspective is grounded in more than two decades of experience spanning the arts, philanthropy, education, and the creative industries. Before leading nationally recognized research and strategy initiatives, Alison built her career as a creative—performing on stages around the world, teaching dance, and working in voiceover, live production, and creative direction for major music festivals and award shows. That lived experience continues to shape her approach, bridging artistic practice with strategic insight in ways that resonate with both funders and cultural leaders.

Alison's foundation in research and evaluation began in education, with work at the Educational Testing Service and on initiatives supporting the U.S. Department of Education. Those experiences shaped her belief that evaluation should be more than a reporting requirement—it should help organizations learn, make better decisions, strengthen relationships, and invest resources where they can create the greatest impact.

Today, through MCE, she leads culturally responsive evaluation, strategic learning, facilitation, and advisory engagements for foundations, government agencies, nonprofits, and arts organizations. Her clients have included the Barr Foundation, Wallace Foundation, Heinz Endowments, the International Association of Blacks in Dance, Dance/USA, Color Congress, the League of American Orchestras, and many others.

Alison is also the creator of the Impact Roadmap™ Toolkit through The Creator's Well, a growing ecosystem of resources designed to help artists, cultural workers, and creative leaders build sustainable careers and organizations. Through Cultural Catalysts, she spotlights the producers, publicists, funders, strategists, and other behind-the-scenes leaders shaping culture, while her writing explores leadership, sustainability, and entrepreneurship across the creative ecosystem.

In 2009, Alison co-founded Women of Color in the Arts (WOCA), a network advancing leadership, visibility, and opportunity across the arts. She is a Recording Academy member, has contributed to the Smithsonian's Anthology of Hip-Hop and Rap, and regularly serves on national arts funding panels. Alison holds a B.A. from Hampton University and an M.A. from American University. She is a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses alumna, a 2022 Intercultural Leadership Institute Fellow, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, The BOW Collective, and the American Evaluation Association.

Through every engagement, Alison's work is guided by a simple belief: when organizations have greater clarity, stronger evidence, and aligned strategies, they are better positioned to create lasting cultural and community impact.
